Abstract
The history of the labor movement in Indonesia is closely related to the political wave national liberation struggle the confines of colonialism that occurred at that time. The dynamics of the development of the trade union movement in colonial Indonesia until the movement is influenced by the educated middle class began to grow at the time. Middle class was formed by accident as a result of the policy of the colonial regime in the field of teaching which provided space for native aristocracy to get a formal education in Dutch schools since 1864. The middle class has brought new ideas and new ideas both in patterns and pattern organizations struggle. Their role as the primary initiator in mobilizing popular support and organize a nationalist political movement that produces independence for Indonesia. Along the way, if the labor movement in the colonial period to be one of the opposition forces against the colonial government power, in the old order of the labor movement is one of the main forces supporting the regime in power
