Abstract

Kata Kunci : tempurung kluwak, solid state, elektroda superkapasitor Abstract Kluwak is often used as cooking flavor, but the utilization toward the waste of kluwak shell is not optimal in Indonesia. Kluwak shell has a high carbon content which is very potential to be supercapacitor electrode. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of a PEG activator mass addition toward the size of pore, surface area, and the capacitance value of activated carbon electrode from kluwak shell (Pangium Edule). The shell of kluwak is dehydrated at temperature around 180℃ for 5 hours and carbonated at temperature around 700℃ for 2 hours. The result of carbonation is done by proximate characterization and discovered the amount of the fixed carbon is 77,1%. The activation process uses solid state method at temperatur around 800℃ for 5 hours, the comparisons between carbon and PEG that had used are 1:3, 1:4, 1:5, 1:6, and 1:7. The result of BET characterization is obtained by the smallest size of pore for 1,19109 nm and the biggest surface area for 690,498 m2/g at the sample that activated by PEG is on 1:6. The result of voltametri obtains highest capacitance value as big as 41,3072 mF/g at the sample which activated by PEG is on 1:6. The result of SEM characterization showed that the structure of sample morphology has a pore that can be applied supercapacitor electrode.
