Abstract

Abstract; Telling story is one of the language skills which has an important role for the mental retarded children. Based on the primary observation, low mental retarded children get difficulties to tell about the animals’ name and their characteristics. Therefore, the appropriate method is used in their teaching and learning process. That is study tour method. This research aims to analyze the effect of study tour for the low mental retarded students’ telling story skill before and after they are given action.
This research uses pseudo quantitative research and the pre experiment design: pre test ad post test. There are 6 low mental retarded children at fifth grade of Dharma Wanita Lebo inclusive school who become the subject of this research. There are test, documentation, and observation as the data collecting method. The data analysis techniques are non parametric statistic and sign test.
Based on the data analysis, the score of the students’ study result of the telling story skill by using study tour method is improved around 22.2%. Based on the non parametric statistic and sign test, Zh is 2.05. It is bigger than the critical Z score in one side test 1.64. Therefore, Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. The conclusion of this research is that there is a significant effect of the study tour method for the low mental retarded children’s telling story skill at fifth grade of Dharma Wanita Lebo inclusive school C Sidoarjo.
