Abstract

ABSTRACT
Hearing impairment was a student who had disturbance in hearing function. The main problem of hearing impairment students was ability in speech mastery. Although they had good enough intelligence potency even perhaps upper average however they were less in developing their intelligence function. Hearing impairment students was difficult to understand concept so that it was often found that hearing impairment students had speech mastery pattern deviating from the norm of Indonesian structure. This research had purpose to know the influence of telling story method with a series of picture media toward vocabulary ability to the fourth class of hearing impairment students in SDLB Negeri Tompokersan Lumajang.
The approach used in this research was quantitative and the research kind was sign test with the design “one group pre-test – post-test design”. The data collection method used test and documentation, the data analysis technique used statistic non parametric with ”willcoxon” formula.
The research result around the influence of telling story method with a series of picture media toward vocabulary ability to hearing impairment students was Z = 2.05 > Z table = 1.96 to significant level 5%. It proved that Ho was refused and Ha was accepted so that it could be concluded that speech guide program based total communication toward speech ability to hearing impairment students gave significant influence.
