Abstract
The Thengul dance created in 1992 is a dance taken from the depiction or adaptation of a thengul wayang art which is a typical art in Bojonegoro regency. Artists in Bojonegoro Regency are making efforts to explore traditional forms that are based on Wayang Thengul art so that they can attract the interest of the people of Bojonegoro. Artists in Bojonegoro Regency are trying to explore movements that almost resemble the characteristics of Wayang Thengul and have unique choreography. The development of the Thengul Dance is still being studied and its existence is preserved. Apart from tourism, this dance is also included in the realm of education as an effort to introduce it to the younger generation so that the regeneration process continues.
The theories used in this study are the theory of modernization, the theory of existence and the theory of social change. The research used qualitative research with the object of research into the existence of Thengul Dance in the modern era as a regional dance in Bojonegoro Regency, data discovery using observation and interview stages, data reduction stage, data validity, data presentation in the form of descriptions, so that conclusions can be drawn. that the Thengul Dance of Bojonegoro Regency still exists and is developing today, this dance is indeed one of the superior dances compared to other dances or arts in Bojonegoro Regency. The Thengul dance of Bojonegoro Regency can be said to have an existence when this dance becomes an icon of the Bojonegoro Regency itself, compared to other dances that develop in the Bojonegoro Regency area This Thengul dance has unique characteristics that are different from the others. The Thengul dance can exist until now and has also undergone a process. This process is the process of Revitalizing the Thengul Dance in 2011. This revitalization process is not without reason because to make Thengul Dance have a new packaging with innovations from Bojonegoro artists so that Thengul Dance is more widely known and does not seem ancient in the context of an increasingly modern era. . The existence of Thengul Dance is developing not only in the field of tourism but also in the field of education and increasing the creative economy for the community, especially Bojonegoro Regency. The existence of the Thengul Dance, external and internal parties from Bojonegoro Regency is also inseparable from the existence of the existing Thengul Dance in particular. This form of effort is made so that the existence of the Thengul Dance continues with the hope that in the future it will continue to exist.
