Abstract

Abstract

This study describes the representation of the value of compassion in the Indonesian translation text  of the film One Piece Red by Eiichiro Oda based on Karen Armstrong's theory in her book Compassion: 12 Steps to a Merciful Life. Qualitative descriptive was chosen as this type of research. The main focus of this research is the analysis of data processed from dialogues, scenes, narratives, and image pieces in films. The dialogue transcript is the main data in this study and then analyzed and interpreted based on the main topic of the research. Data collection is done by watching movies repeatedly, noting things related to the formulation of problems, coding each data, classifying the data, and concluding. Meanwhile, the data analysis technique is carried out by data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion presentation. The data validity technique is in the form of source triangulation, namely the researcher collects data from various sources about the value of compassion with the main source in the form of the book Compassion: 12 Steps to a Merciful Life by Karen Armstrong. Triangulation with peers is also carried out to reduce the subjectivity of the data so that the data obtained will be objective. The results obtained from the research are the values of compassion in the film One Piece Film: Red, namely 1) empathy is depicted with Sanji, Zoro, and Brook's concern for Uta and can feel the emotions of others, 2) concern for all is shown by the character Coby's concern for the safety of the audience's soul and Gordon's concern for Uta, 3) confession is depicted with Shanks' openness to accepting Uta as his child and Gordon's confession of important events in Uta's past, and 4) love your enemies is shown by  the mature attitude between Uta and Luffy who are able to reconcile after going through an inner and physical battle.
