Abstract

Abstract

Family disharmony is a social phenomenon that arises from the disruption of family functions and roles, resulting in effects on emotional relationships and the well-being of individuals within the family. This phenomenon is often represented in literary works, including films as reflections of social reality. One film that addresses this issue is Semusim Setelah Kemarau directed by Dyan Sunu Prastowo, which depicts family conflict resulting from divorce and the failure of parental roles. This study aims to describe the forms and impacts of family disharmony in the film Semusim Setelah Kemarau based on William J. Goode’s family sociology perspective. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The research data are derived from dialogues, scenes, and visual elements in the film that represent family disharmony. The results indicate that there are five forms of family disharmony, namely illegitimacy, separation or relationship breakdown, empty shell family, the absence of one partner due to unintended circumstances, and the failure of essential roles. In addition, this study finds that family disharmony has impacts on both parents and children. The impact on parents is reflected in the deteriorating relationship between former spouses, while the impact on children includes emotional trauma, loss of a father figure, hostile attitudes toward the father, and trauma related to marriage. This study demonstrates that family disharmony in the film Semusim Setelah Kemarau has a significant impact on social relationships and the psychological condition of family members, particularly children.
