STRUKTUR KEPRIBADIAN TOKOH PADMA DALAM NOVEL TANAH PARA BANDIT KARYA TERE LIYE: PSIKOANALISIS SIGMUND FREUD
Abstract
Abstract
This study aims to describe the personality structure and ego defense mechanisms of Padma in the novel Tanah Para Bandit by Tere Liye using Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic approach. This study focuses on the elements of the id, ego, and superego, as well as the various ego defense mechanisms used by Padma when facing internal and external conflicts. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques of observing, reading, and taking notes. Data analysis is carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and systematic conclusion drawing. The results show that Padma has complex and developing personality dynamics. The id structure is apparent through emotional drives, impulsive attitudes, and spontaneous actions in response to environmental pressures and past traumatic experiences. The ego plays a role in mediating instinctive drives with the demands of reality, thus forming a rational, strategic, and controlled attitude. The superego is reflected in moral values, conscience, social awareness, and humanitarian principles that Padma maintains amidst a harsh and violent environment. The ego defense mechanisms found include repression, denial, diversion, rationalization, regression, sublimation, and reaction formation. This mechanism serves to protect Padma from anxiety, social pressure, past trauma, and conflicts between the id, ego, and superego, thus forming a psychologically strong character in the context of a character's life full of violence and moral conflict in her life.
