KONFLIK BATIN TOKOH UTAMA DALAM NOVEL RUMAH UNTUK ALIE KARYA LENN LIU: TEORI KETAHANMALANGAN PAUL G. STOLTZ
Abstract
This study aims to describe the forms of inner conflict, the factors causing inner conflict, and the actions of
the main character in facing life's problems in the novel Rumah untuk Alie by Lenn Liu using Paul G.
Stoltz's theory of adversity resilience (Adversity Quotient). This study uses a descriptive qualitative
approach, because it focuses on in-depth and systematic data presentation in accordance with the facts
contained in the novel text. The data source was obtained from the novel Rumah untuk Alie, while the data
collection technique was carried out through reading and note-taking techniques. Data analysis was carried
out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions in a gradual and
structured manner. The results of the study show that the main character, Alie Ishala Samantha,
experiences ten forms of inner conflict, namely depression, obsession, anxiety, fear, insecurity, guilt,
inadequacy, frustration, anger, and heartache. These conflicts are caused by internal factors in the form of
the character's fragile psychological condition and deep trauma, as well as external factors originating from
a disharmonious family environment, full of rejection, and emotional and physical violence. In facing this
conflict, Alie demonstrates the process of resilience through four dimensions of Adversity Quotient: control,
origin and recognition, reach, and endurance. This study concludes that the novel Rumah untuk Alie not
only depicts inner conflict in depth but also shows the development of the main character's mental resilience
in facing life's pressures.
