The THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE RESPONSES OF EIGHTH-GRADE STUDENTS AT SMPN 57 SURABAYA TO THE USE OF KAHOOT AND THEIR LEARNING OUTCOMES IN IDENTIFYING POETRY STRUCTURE

Abstract
Literature instruction in middle school often faces the challenge of low student achievement in identifying poetic structure, which is caused by monotonous conventional teaching methods and a lack of technology integration. This study aims to determine the relationship between students’ responses to the use of Kahoot and their learning outcomes in identifying poetic structure among eighth-grade students at SMPN 57 Surabaya during the 2025/2026 academic year.
This study employed a quantitative approach using a correlational method. The population of this study consisted of all eighth-grade students at SMPN 57 Surabaya, involving 30 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires and tests. Data were analyzed using test with the aid of SPSS.
The results of the study indicate that students’ response to the use of Kahoot was in the “good” category, with an average total score of 62.78%. Student learning outcomes in the lesson on identifying the structure of poetry for eighth-grade students at SMPN 57 Surabaya were in the “proficient” category, with 19 students (63.3%) scoring 70 or higher, there is a positive and significant relationship between students’ responses to the use of Kahoot and their learning outcomes in identifying the structure of poetry, as indicated by a Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient of r = 0.428 (moderate) and a significance level (two-tailed) of 0.018 < 0.05. These findings suggest that the integration of gamification-based media such as Kahoot can be a key strategy for enhancing the effectiveness of literature instruction.
