Abstract

Abstract

The phenomenon of corruption in Indonesia has become a popular topic in news coverage on online news portals. One such portal is Media Indonesia, which published numerous reports on corruption in February–March 2025. This study aims to analyze the linguistic representation in these news reports through Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis framework, which encompasses the dimensions of text, discourse practices, and sociocultural practices. These three dimensions will reveal the ideological tendencies constructed by the online news portal Media Indonesia. The use of language not merely as a tool for communication but as a vehicle for other meanings constitutes the essence of linguistic representation. The approach employed is a qualitative one, specifically a descriptive qualitative study. The data used consists of 11 corruption news articles categorized as news containing a chronology of events. Data collection techniques include reading, documentation, and note-taking. The research findings on the textual dimension reveal the relationship between journalists and state institutions, which represent specific actions. Discourse practices demonstrate a balance in the quotations presented and simplify legal information to make it easily understandable. Sociocultural practices indicate that news is influenced by situational realities, institutional interests, and societal values. These three dimensions ultimately reveal the ideological tendency carried by Media Indonesia, namely positioning the media as a partner of state institutions.
