Abstract
Phenomena in modern life often show individuals facing existential dilemmas, social demands, and relationship pressures that influence personality development. This is reflected in Almira Bastari's novel Home Sweet Loan through the main characters. This study aims to describe the existential dilemmas, human needs, escape mechanisms, and the social context behind them in the characters Kaluna, Tanisha, Kamamiya, and Danan from the perspective of Erich Fromm's personality psychology. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with a literary psychology approach. The data source used is the novel Home Sweet Loan, with data in the form of words, sentences, and dialogues relevant to the research focus. The data collection technique used reading and note-taking techniques with the researcher's own instruments assisted by data cards. The data analysis technique used content analysis. The results showed that from 138 data citations, 20 data on existential dilemmas were found, dominated by the character Kaluna, 69 data on the need for freedom and attachment, 35 data on the need to understand and be active, 14 data on escape mechanisms, and the underlying social context came from pressure from family, work, and personal relationships.
