Abstract
This study is motivated by the importance of understanding character personality dynamics in literary works as a reflection of human psychological complexity. The objective of this research is to describe the personality structure of Seli, the main character in the novel Matahari Minor by Tere Liye, using the psychoanalytic theory proposed by Sigmund Freud. The focus of this study is to analyze the manifestations of id, ego, and superego in Seli’s character. This research employs a qualitative method with a literary psychology approach. The data source is the novel Matahari Minor, while the data consist of narrative excerpts, dialogues, and character actions that reflect Seli’s personality aspects. Data collection techniques include intensive reading, note-taking, and classification based on Freud’s psychoanalytic framework. The collected data are analyzed using a descriptive-interpretative method by identifying and interpreting character behavior that represents the elements of id, ego, and superego. The findings reveal that Seli’s personality dynamics are formed through the interaction of these three structures. The id appears through emotional impulses and spontaneous actions, the ego is reflected in the ability to control oneself and think rationally, and the superego is evident in responsibility, empathy, and moral considerations. The interaction of these three aspects shapes Seli into a dynamic and complex character within the narrative.
