Abstract

The low level of students' poster-writing skills remains a challenge in Indonesian language learning, particularly in terms of creativity, persuasive language use, and effective message delivery. This condition is influenced by the limited use of instructional media that can stimulate students’ ideas and imagination. Therefore, innovative learning through the application of graphic media is needed to help students understand the integration of visual and verbal elements in posters. This study aimed to describe the implementation of graphic media in poster-writing instruction, examine students’ learning outcomes, and identify students’ responses toward the use of graphic media. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design combined with a mixed-methods approach. The participants were 29 eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 24 Surabaya. Data were collected through observation, tests, and questionnaires. The findings revealed that student activity increased from 64% in the first meeting to 100% in the second meeting, while teacher activity reached 90% and was categorized as very good. The test results showed that the average student score increased from 56.17 in the pre-test to 86.41 in the post-test, representing an improvement of 30.24 points. Furthermore, questionnaire results indicated an average positive response rate of 93.9%, demonstrating that graphic media enhanced students’ learning motivation, creativity, active participation, and self-confidence. Therefore, graphic media proved to be effective in improving the poster-writing skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 24 Surabaya.
