"LIEBE" DALAM INSTAPUISI JULIA ENGELMANN : KAJIAN SEMIOTIKA FERDINAND DE SAUSSURE

Abstract

This study aims to describe the signifier and signified of Liebe and examine the relationship between them in Julia Engelmann's Instapoetry based on Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic theory. The research data consist of Instapoetry posts from the Instagram account @_juliaengelmann containing the word Liebe. The study also focuses on revealing the meaning of Liebe as constructed through the relationship between its signifier and signified within the textual context of each Instapoetry. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using documentation and text analysis techniques. The analysis was conducted by identifying the primary signifier, describing the signifier and signified of Liebe, and examining the relationship between them. The findings reveal that the lexical signifier Liebe does not consistently produce the same signified; instead, its meaning varies according to the textual context of each Instapoetry. The relationship between the signifier and signified of Liebe represents various meanings of Liebe/love, namely (1) love as a positive value, (2) non-prioritized love, (3) unattainable love, (4) uncertain love, (5) love as a positive value, (6) memorable love, (7) new love, (8) eternal love, (9) uncertain love, and (10) love as a foundation of truth. These findings indicate that the meaning of signs in Instapoetry is contextual, as the relationship between the signifier and the signified is constructed through the linguistic structure of each poem.
