"SATZMETAPHER" DALAM LAGU DU KARYA PETER MAFFAY

Abstract

ABSTRACT
This study aims to describe the forms and meanings of sentence metaphor (Satzmetapher) found in the lyrics of the song Du by Peter Maffay. The song Du, released in 1970 and which became a number-one hit in Germany, was selected as the object of this study because it contains the strongest theme of the totality of love compared to the other songs in the album Für das Mädchen, das ich liebe, in which the beloved is frequently identified directly with abstract concepts such as "everything" and "purpose of life". This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with documentation and reading-note-taking techniques used for data collection, as well as the interactive analysis model of Miles et al. (2013), which refers to the stylistic theory of Aurnhammer et al. (in Ridwan, 2017). The findings reveal three instances of Satzmetapher in the song Du: "Du bist alles, was ich habe auf der Welt", "Ich lebe nur noch für dich", and "Ich hab' ein Ziel und dieses Ziel bist Du". These three data show that sentence metaphor is formed through a combination of several sentence elements that reinforce one another, thereby producing a complete figurative expression that cannot be reduced to a single word or phrase. These findings confirm that Satzmetapher functions as the primary means of portraying love as the center of the lyrical subject's existence, while also reinforcing the view that sentence metaphor plays a distinctive role in expressing emotional experiences that are total and comprehensive in nature.
