KONFLIK SOSIAL ANTAR TOKOH PADA DONGENG KARYA DOERTE MUELLER

Abstract

Literary  works  reflect  social  reality  and  the  conflicts  of  human  life.  Modern  fairy  tales  function  not  only  as  a  form  of  entertainment  but  also  as  social  documents  that  portray  the  dynamics  of  interpersonal  relationships  and  the  social  environment.  This  study  aims  to  describe  the  forms  of  external  conflict  among  characters  in  three  fairy  tales  by  Dörte  Müller,  namely  Der  goldene  Umhang,  Isabella  und  der  reißende  Fluss,  and  Lisa  und  die  Fee.  This  research  employs  a  qualitative  descriptive  method  using  the  sociology  of  literature  approach  based  on  the  perspectives  of  René  Wellek  and  Austin  Warren.  The  conflict  analysis  is  based  on  Burhan  Nurgiyantoro's  theory  of  conflict.  The  research  data  consist  of  narrative  passages  and  dialogues  among  characters  that  explicitly  or  implicitly  contain  elements  of  external  conflict.  Data  were  collected  through  intensive  reading  and  note-taking  techniques,  while  data  analysis  was  conducted  by  categorizing  the  collected  data.  The  findings  reveal  10  instances  of  social  conflict  manifested  through  interactions  among  characters,  including  quarrels,  oppression,  domination,  conflicting  interests,  and  bullying.  Specifically,  (1)  in  Der  goldene  Umhang,  social  conflict  is  manifested  in  marital  disputes  between  Jochen  and  Klara,  triggered  by  differences  in  life  perspectives  and  economic  conditions;  (2)  in  Isabella  und  der  reißende  Fluss,  social  conflict  is  reflected  in  acts  of  oppression,  exploitation,  and  restrictions  on  Isabella's  freedom;  and  (3)  in  Lisa  und  die  Fee,  social  conflict  is  represented  through  verbal  and  nonverbal  bullying  committed  by  Hannes  against  Lisa  both  inside  and  outside  the  school  environment.  This  study  demonstrates  that  Dörte  Müller's  modern  fairy  tales  successfully  represent  contemporary  social  conflicts,  including  dissatisfaction  in  married  life,  exploitation,  and  bullying.
