Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze lexical parallelism in five poems on the theme of a mother's love, namely "Mama, wer hält dich?", "Es ist deine Mama", "Mama irgendwann", "Liebesbrief aus deinem Bauch", and "Ich werde immer deine Mama sein", which belong to a poetry collection entitled "Mama." These five poems were published through the Instagram account @poesie.reveur, an account that regularly shares poems on family themes and personal life in German, so that the data in this study reflect the style of contemporary poetry that has developed on social media. Parallelism is understood as a form of foregrounding according to Leech (1969), namely the prominence of a linguistic element through the regular repetition of a pattern, reinforced by Hall (2005) view that such repetition directs readers' attention while also strengthening their memory of the ideas the poet emphasizes. The analysis was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method, drawing on the six subcategories of lexical parallelism formulated by Macabenta et al., (2025), namely epanalepsis, anaphora, epistrophe, anadiplosis, chiasmus, and epizeuxis. The results show that all six subcategories appear in this poetry collection, with anaphora as the most dominant form and distributed throughout the poems, followed by epistrophe and epanalepsis, which appear as refrains or framing devices in several poems, while anadiplosis, chiasmus, and epizeuxis are found only in limited numbers. These findings indicate that the poet tends to make use of parallelism that builds meaning gradually and repeatedly to reinforce the collection's central theme, namely a mother's love that remains consistent and unaffected by time or by the changes experienced by the child. This study is expected to enrich stylistic studies of digital poetry circulating on social media, particularly within the German-language context..
