PENOKOHAN TOKOH UTAMA DALAM FILM "TIEFWASSERTAUCHER UNTERM DACH" KARYA RUPERT HENNING

Abstract

This study examines the characterization of Annie Breuer in Rupert Henning’s film Tiefwassertaucher unterm Dach to describe Annie Breuer’s characteristics based on physiological, sociological, and psychological dimensions, as well as to analyze the characterization techniques used by the director in developing these characteristics. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using content analysis. The data source is the film Tiefwassertaucher unterm Dach, while the research data consists of dialogue, actions, expressions, and visual elements related to the character Annie Breuer. Data collection was conducted through observation, note-taking, and documentation, and the data was then analyzed using Lajos Egri’s three-dimensional character theory and the characterization techniques theory by Joseph M. Boggs and Dennis W. Petrie. The results of the study show that 12 data points regarding Annie Breuer’s characteristics were identified across three character dimensions, along with 27 data points on characterization techniques used to develop the character’s traits: appearance, dialogue, external actions, reactions of other characters, and contrast (comparative characters). Meanwhile, characterization through internal actions, caricature and leitmotifs, and the choice of name was not found. The results of the study show that Annie Breuer’s character is developed through a combination of various characterization techniques, with dialogue, appearance, and the reactions of other characters serving as the most dominant techniques, thereby shaping Annie’s character as a whole and supporting her character development throughout the plot.
