KEBERANIAN TOKOH UTAMA MAX DALAM ROMAN "DER GEFÄHRLICHE TRAUM" KARYA CLAUDIA FRIESER

Abstract

ABSTRACT  

This study aims to examine the components of courage as a risk factor in Claudia Frieser’s novel Der gefährliche Traum based on Andreas Dick’s theory (2010). This study is grounded in the understanding that courage is one of the key aspects in the development of the main character in a literary work. The approach used is a qualitative descriptive approach. The research data sources consist of phrases, narratives, sentences, or dialogues that indicate Max acting in accordance with the components of courage risk. The data collection technique involved a literature review using the read-and-note method. The data analysis process consisted of identifying, categorizing, and analyzing the information using Andreas Dick’s theory of courage, which was presented in the form of research questions and findings. The research findings indicate that the novel contains an element of courage—specifically, risk-taking (Risiken eingehen), as evidenced by 14 instances based on Andreas Dick’s theory (2010). An analysis of this work shows that the main character demonstrates courage despite the risks faced. These risks are psychological, moral, and environmental in nature. The main character’s courage persists until the end of the story, accompanied by the conflicts that arise. The protagonist takes dangerous actions despite being aware that the risks involved are considerable. Thus, the protagonist’s courage is evident not only in his determination to be strong, but also in his willingness to accept the risks involved and in his relationships with other characters. Therefore, the element of risk in courage serves as the primary foundation for shaping the main character’s personality and represents a virtue that conveys the author’s positive message to the readers.
