ABSTRACT

Dajare is a word game in Japanese where there are two words with different meanings but have the same utterances in one sentence. This word play is commonly found in the daily activities of Japanese people. To be able to find out more about dajare, a research on the formation of dajare and the contextual meaning contained inside the word need to be conducted.

This study aims to describe the formation of embedded dajare and its contextual meaning in the YouTube channel ?? ? ? ? ?. As for answering the research theme, this study used dajare formation theory by Takashi Otake (2010), word formation by Tsujimura (2004), Sutedi (2011), and contextual meaning theory by Chaer (2012). There are 23 data were found in this study.

The data that have been classified then analyzed with the theory chosen in which from those data the following results are obtained: 20 data for the formation of embedded dajare type 1, 2 data for the formation of embedded dajare type 2, and 1 data for the type 3. In the data also found dajare with the formation of free morphemes, inflectional morphemes, affixation, Sino-Japanese compounds, clipping, reduplication, borrowing, haseigo, fukugougo, shouryaku, and the duration of consonants contained in dajare phrases. The contextual meaning contained in dajare is in the form of nouns such as ?? ? (collaborator), ? ? ? (rules), ? (deer); verbs such as: ? ? ? (throw), ? ? ? ? ? (let), ?? ? ? (regret); adverbs, such as: ? ? ? ? (quickly), ? ? ? (before coming); and expressions like ? ? ? which express resentment.
