Abstract
The use of language is a common tool for conversation and an important a part of socializing. In
communicating, language is needed to understand the meaning of what is spoken. Language is constantly
changing from time to time, easy to pronounce and commensurate with this modern era, with the modern
era changing language to make more sense with the same meaning and easy to understand. Where figure
of speech is often used unconsciously, it becomes a figure of speech by giving figurative words to
embellish a language. Not much different from the use of figure of speech in a Japanese animation or
anime, where the language used is relevant to everyday life. Words or dialogues used in anime are
manifestations from their original language and the classical manner that students or teenagers use. The
purpose of this research is to describe the use of metonymy in anime Haikyuu season 1 by Furudate
Haruichi with 25 episode and to describe the meaning of metonymy in anime Haikyuu season 1 by
Furudate Haruichi with 25 episode. The research implemented a qualitative descriptive observe that
containing descriptive information or the data from a conversation in a data source (anime), namely the
anime Haikyuu season 1 by Furudate Haruichi. With the results discovered, there are 31 metonymy with
the 4 categories used. The most common metonymy figure of speech most widely found in the fourth
category with 16 data and rare category are youki-nakami with 4 data. The fourth category appear most
frequently in anime due to the fact they form the vocabulary of the teenagers and had been the most
extensively used mention of a person, while in the youki-nakami category there is not much in season 1.
