Abstract

Abstract
This research is about code switching and code mixing between Japanese students at the State University of
Surabaya and Japanese peoples by on social media, hellotalk. With the background of the participants native
language being different, and the participants are bilingual, this led to the occurrence of code switching and code
mixing events in the communication that occurred in the hellotalk application. In this research, it will describe
the forms of code switching and code mixing that founded, as well as describe the factors that cause code
switching and code mixing events to occur. Qualitative descriptive approach is used in this research. The source
of the data is taken from social media, hellotalk application. From this research obtained 6 data used. From data
that have been researched, it is found that from 6 data there are 12 sentences on code switching, and from 3 data
there are 6 sentences on code mixing. On data 1 sentence (2), (3), and (4) is a form between-sentetial code
switching, and on data 3 sentence (2) is a form intra-sentetial code switching. All of code switching type was
founded is a type of external code switching. And all of code mixing type was founded is a type of outer code
mixing. The causes of code switching and code mixing are seen from the factor of who is speaking, to whom
he/she is speaking, what language is used, changes in the topic of conversation, the intent and purpose of the
conversation. But what distinguishes the cause od code switching and code mixing is the presence or absence of
the speaker’s intention when communicating.

つのデータからコードスイッチングに関する 6 つの文があることがわかる。データ 1 の文(2)、(3)、
および(4)は、between-sentetial code switching の形式であり、データ 3 の文(2)は、intra-sentetial code
switching の形式であり。このデータは全部コードスイッチングについてで 6 つ見つかり、コードミキ
シングについて 4 つ見つかった。研究で見つかったコードスイッチングは全部 external code switching
タイプである。すると、見つけたコードミキシングは全部 outer code mixing タイプである。コードス
イッチングとコードミキシングを引き起こす原因は誰が話しているか、誰と話しているか、どの言語
が使用されているのか、トピックの変更、会話の目的である。しかし、コードスイッチングとコード
ミキシングの原因を区別するのはコミュニケーション時の話者の意図の有無である。
