Abstract

Abstract
This study aims to determine the level of understanding of the candidate Japanese language teachers in
preparing Japanese assessment instruments. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative with data
collection techniques in the form of questionnaires. Respondents for filling out the questionnaire in this study
were 47 people who were students of the Japanese Language Education Study Program at Surabaya State
University class of 2019 who had carried out the Introduction to School Field (PLP) in semester seven. Data
analysis used the theory of Miles and Huberman, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion
drawing. The results showed that the respondents had a very good understanding of the preparation of
Japanese language assessment instruments, but on two questionnaire items, namely questionnaire items
related to grids and questionnaire items related to HOTS and LOTS questions, it is known that prospective
Japanese language teachers do not have a very good understanding. So it is necessary to strengthen
understanding of these two things.
