Language is a form of symbol in the form of sound. There are a number of words whose symbols are
derived from the sounds of the objects they represent. This imitation of sound is called onomatopoeia,
which is a word derived from imitation of sound. There are onomatopoeias that have several meanings, so
the use of onomatopoeias cannot be separated from the context of the situation and conditions. The purpose
of this study is to describe the contextual meaning of giyougo-type onomatopoeia that shows the behavior
of living objects and their functions. The data source is taken from Chibi Maruko-Chan comics volume 2-6
by Momoko Sakura. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The method used in this
research is descriptive qualitative method. This method uses listening and note techniques to provide data,
which is then analyzed and presented descriptively using the translation pairing method. From this
research, (1) the contextual meaning of giyougo onomatopoeia which shows human behavior such as
walking was found as much as 3 data, running as much as 3 data, fast movement as much as 1 data, eating
as much as 3 data, drinking as much as 1 data, seeing as much as 1 data, shaking as much as 2 data, hiding
as much as 1 data, confused as much as 1 data, grumbling as much as 2 data, wandering as much as 1 data,
spinning as much as 1 data, and jumping as much as 1 data, (2) the function of giyougo onomatopoeia that
shows human behavior has 4 functions, namely miru hanasu, iroirona dousa, hayai dousa majimena
taidou, and yarikata.
