Abstract
This study discusses the forms and factors that cause code switching and code mixing on Nihongo Partners
Instagram account at SMA Negeri 1 Taruna Madani Jawa Timur. This research is a descriptive qualitative
research because it contains utterances that contain code switching and code mixing in the research
subjects. The data collection technique used is in this research are observation and documentation. The
results of this study show that the form of code switching only consists of internal code switching as much
as 40 data classified based on language switching. The form of switching from foreign language to native
language as much as 20 data, switching from native language to foreign language 5 data, switching from
foreign language to native language back to foreign language 10 data, and switching from native language
to foreign language back to native language 5 data. The form of code mixing consists of external code
switching and hybrid code switching as much as 19 data classified based on language level. External code
switching occurs at the word level as much as 14 data and phrase level as much as 7 data. Mixed code
switching occurs at the phrase level only has 1 data. The cause of code switching has several factors,
including factors from the speaker as much as 23 data, the interlocutor as much as 8 data, changes in the
situation with the presence of a third person as a speaker has 1 data, and changes in the topic of
conversation as much as 8 data. Code mixing is caused by factors from the interlocutor as much as 5 data,
function and purpose as much as 12 data, and limitations on the use of code as much as 2 data.
