Abstract
This study aims to find out how students perceptions of the oral test method conducted by the
teacher in measuring Japanese speaking skills at SMAN 2 Sidoarjo. The research method used in this study
is mixed methods research. The design of this study uses sequential explanatory designs. The population in
this study amounted to 96 students and the sample used amounted to 18 students obtained from sampling
using purposive sampling technique. The data collection was carried out by filling out questionnaire sheets
and interviews. The results of this study indicate that students' perceptions of Japanese oral tests produce
quantitative data of 71.44%. The results of the study are supported by the results of the analysis of the
interviews conducted, namely: (1) oral test is very good in improving students' Japanese speaking skills,
(2) students play an active role in the assessment of Japanese speaking skills in the form of oral test, (3)
students totally agree if the Japanese oral test is applied in every meeting, (4) students lack of confidence
and feel nervous in implementation of Japanese oral test, (5) The teacher is very patient in implementation
of the Japanese oral test.
