Abstract

ABSTRACT

Code mixing is occurred because of the mixing another language into a primary language. This research
discusses the form of code mixing on First Love Album by Hikaru Utada and the factors that caused it based on
language elements. This study is a qualitative study using noted data collection technique. The results of this
research proved that there is a form of mixing code inside and out. Based on language elements as well found that
there is a form of mixing codes with word elements, phrases, idioms, and clauses. This study also found that there
are three classifications of code mixing factors, including due to the variety and level of language speaking, to be
just prestigious, and the limitations of code use. From each insertion of language elements found, there are
different factors. In the insertion of word elements, the factor for the occurrence of code mixing is known to be
due to the use of variety and level of casual language speech. Insertion of phrase elements, a factor that causes
code mixing that it is known that it is due to the limited use of code and the use of variety and level of casual
language speech. The insertion of idiom elements found was motivated by invoices for mere prestige. The
insertion of clause elements was found in the background because of the use of variety and level of casual language
and because it was just for prestige.
