Abstract

The thinking process in students can be developed with the help of educators. By providing learning materials that contain higher order thinking processes. Educators evaluate the learning process at the end-of-semester assessment, by making questions that contain higher order thinking processes, so that educators can find out students are able to analyze, evaluate, and make decisions. This study aims to analyze the level of application of Japanese language questions based on Higher Order Thinking Skills in the end-of-semester assessment of grade XI in Sidoarjo.

In this study using descriptive qualitative research methods, documentation collection techniques by collecting question sheets, and data analysis techniques by reading and analyzing questions then identifying stimulus questions that lead to HOTS abilities or by looking at operative verbs on Bloom's revised taxonomy and by looking at the purpose of the questions made on the Marzano taxonomy ability level tasks.

In the end-of-semester assessment questions of grade XI in Sidoarjo, there are 38 out of 216 items that implement HOTS. The results showed a percentage of 17.6% identified HOTS questions based on Bloom's revised taxonomy and Marzano's taxonomy. There are three characteristics of HOTS questions according to the Directorate of High School Development, measuring higher order thinking skills, based on contextual problems, and using various forms, all of which are used in the questions. The implementation of HOTS centers on the ability to analyze, so there needs to be an increase in the preparation of questions that are more directed towards higher order thinking skills.
