Abstract

This research discusses conceptual metaphors and connotative meanings. This research aims to find out the types of conceptual metaphors in the song lyrics on the album ‘Stray Sheep’ by Kenshi Yonezu and also connotative meaning contained in it. The data source for this study consists of six selected songs from Kenshi Yonezu’s album Stray Sheep, namely “Campanella”, “Flamingo”, “Kanden”, “Placebo”, “Lemon”, and “Umi no Yuurei” (Spirits of the Sea). This research employs the theory of conceptual metaphor developed by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson and Geoffrey Leech’s theory of meaning. The approach used is a semantic approach. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The results of the analysis of these six songs show a total of 55 data, with structural metaphors totaling 21 data, ontological metaphors 29 data, and orientational metaphors only found 5 data. In this study, various connotative meanings were found. These connotative meanings reflect a range of emotions such as hope, sadness, and confusion.
