Abstract

Articles that are a type of journalistic work cannot be translated directly. Journalistic work or press must have several characteristics, including: short, concise, simple, fluent, straightforward, and interesting. To meet these requirements, translators need to use several translation techniques.The purpose of this study is to describe the translation techniques used in the translation of Deutsche Welle articles. This study uses a qualitative research design to describe techniques and quantitative research to display the results of the analysis with percentages. The data in this study are the titles and sentences in the articles. The results showed that there were 12 techniques used in 181 data and the most frequently used translation technique was the amplification technique used in 45 data. The percentages of techniques are as follows: (1) Amplification 24.8%; (2) Transposition 23.7%; (3) Reduction 13.8%; (4) Modulation 11.04%; (5) Particularization 9.94%; (6) Literal 8.28%; (7) Generalization 3.31%; (8) Common Equivalence 2.2%; (9) Compensation 0,55%; (10) Discursive Creation 1.1%; (11) Description 0.55%; and (12) Calque 0.55%.
