Abstract

This study aims to describe the request sentence contained in the Volkswagen Group German advertisement which focuses on the form of the request sentence according to the study of syntactic stylistics. Advertising has a very important role for a company in selling products. Because advertising is one of the most effective ways of marketing a product. Not only used by some companies, advertising is used by almost all companies in the world as a way of selling products. The Volkswagen Group is one of the largest automotive multinational companies in the world, headquartered in Germany. The company
designs, manufactures and distributes commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles, motorcycles, engines and turbomachinery. In addition, the Volkswagen Group offers related services, including financing, leasing and fleet management. Volkswagen Group makes advertisements as attractive as possible so that the products it sells can attract the attention of consumers. In the Volkswagen Group advertisement there are interesting sentences, one of which is the use of request sentences which is the focus of this research. So that we know the intent and purpose of the advertisements issued by the Volkswagen Group. The data sources of this research are the official Volkswagen website and online automotive advertising pages in the form of 5 advertising sentences with the type of request sentence which are then analyzed descriptively qualitatively using the theory of Ridwan (2017), Helbig and Buscha (1996), and Engel (1993). The results of the study of 5 advertising data show that all advertising sentences are request sentences. The request sentence used in the Volkswagen Group advertisement is a form of imperative sentence request, the request sentence contains a command in it. It can be said that requests from speakers have expectations and orders addressed to the hearer.
