MAKNA KATA OPTIMISME DALAM PIDATO OLAF SCHOLZ

Abstract

Each lingual unit must have a denotative meaning or connotative meaning or denotative meaning and connotative meaning, such as the lingual unit of the word optimism in Olaf Scholz's speech that shows the attitude possessed by the speaker. For a leader the attitude of optimism must be possessed because optimism is the belief to be able to achieve the goal. In addition, the word optimism also has a meaning related to emotional. Therefore, this study aims to describe the signifier and signified of denotation and connotation in the expression of optimism in Olaf Scholz's speech. This type of research is qualitative research. The data in the study were taken from Olaf Scholz's speech recordings uploaded on the official Deutscher Bundestag account in the form of optimistic texts using listening and note - taking techniques. This study also uses Roland Barthes' semiotic theory to describe the meaning of denotation and connotation of the word optimism. Based on the use of semiotic theory Roland Barthes the results of this study indicate that there are 6 texts that have the nature of optimism with the meaning of denotation and connotation. The meaning of denotation in the text is (i) to show confidence in solving the problem; (ii) to provide information about the efforts to solve the problem;(iii) to show success in solving the problem;(iv) to convey the
objectives of the government;(v) to inform the possibility of success;(vi) to show special attention and plans to be carried out. The word optimism in Olaf Scholz's speech related to the meaning of connotations consists of (i) belief; (ii) hope, (iii) motivation, (iv) Spirit, (v) ambition, and (vi) giving promises.
