Interaksi Simbolik Dalam Märchenroman: Momo Karya Michael Ende
Abstract
Symbolic interaction occurs between individuals who consciously use symbols that have meaning. Such interactions can be found in Michael Ende’s märchenroman Momo because literary works reflect human life. This study used George Herbert Mead’s symbolic interactionism theory to find symbolic interaction in the märchenroman. It examines how the mind, self, and society are shown in märchenroman Momo. The mind in märchenroman Momo is shown by the character Momo through ten symbols used when she interacts with other characters. Momo’s character finds herself when she understands her role in a broad social situation and social norms. Momo’s self also developed from initially acting impulsively and not considering other people’s responses, which is shown in “I” to someone who understands and internalized social norms and values in “Me”. From society, it can be seen that the character Momo is respected by society. Even though there is a conflict, Momo remains consistent with her values. There are also “I” and “Me” in society.
