Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of the transposition procedure in the translation of German
political news into Indonesian on the Deutsche Welle website. This research employs a descriptive
qualitative approach, with all data derived from the findings of an undergraduate thesis entitled
Translation Procedures of German Political News into Indonesian on the Deutsche Welle Website.
The research data consist of linguistic units at the levels of words, phrases, and sentences that indicate
changes in grammatical structure from the source language to the target language. The analysis is
conducted based on Peter Newmark’s (1988) theory of translation procedures, with a particular focus
on transposition. The results show that there are 34 instances of the transposition procedure, which is
dominantly used in the translation of Deutsche Welle’s political news. This procedure is applied due
to differences in the grammatical systems of German and Indonesian. Transposition plays an
important role in maintaining readability, naturalness, and semantic equivalence in the translated text
without altering the content and intended meaning of the source text.
