Abstract

One of the objects that require high toughness in its application is the tricycle motor shaft. The vertical loading given to the shaft causes a change in its shape which is called deflection, in other words a shaft will experience loading, whether the load is concentrated or evenly distributed. Most shafts are made of low and medium carbon steel which is hot rolled or cold rolled. When receiving a constant load and a shock load, the lace steel material will be less than optimal. The motor shafts that are widely available in spare parts stores are mostly made of a medium that uses loads that are not in accordance with the capacity. a hardened alloy steel that is highly resistant to wear but not very strong against the shock loads that the shaft is constantly subjected to. S45C steel, for example, is a "Medium Carbon Steel" (0.3-0.5% C) type of steel that is suitable for use as a shaft material where the steel is included in the middle class steel category that is resistant to wear and shock loads, this carbon steel has a chemical composition with The main ingredients include: carbon 0.44% C, manganese between 0.57-0.69% Mn, 0.013-0.037% P, 0.033-0.038% S, 0.16-0.20% Si. To increase hardness and toughness, one of them is Heat Treatment by using compressed air, water and oil cooling media.
