Abstract

Stainless Steel SS 304 is a construction material in industry that is often used in the joining process to form components according to the right design. One of these connections is done through the welding process. Mechanical properties and performance of equipment studied the welding process. From the manufacturing process can reduce the strength of a material because of the residual stress. This causes the material to be more prone to cracking/damage. The purpose of this study was to determine the strength of the welded connection of Stainless Steel SS 304 material after. TIG welding with current variations of 80 A, 100 A, and 120 A by testing the connection tensile test. The data analysis technique used in this research is descriptive quantitative, carried out by examining the data obtained from experiments, where the results are in the form of quantitative data which will be made in tabular form and displayed in graphic form. The independent variables used welding currents of 80 A, 100 A, and 120 A. For the controlled variables, the type of material, specimen size, Nikko Steel NSN-308LR TIG TIG welding, electrode distance to the workpiece. And for the variable where it is Tensile strength. The results obtained that the average tensile strength value with a welding current of 80 A is 901.15 MPa, while with a welding current of 100 A the value of the average strength is 1007.31 MPa. At a welding current of 120 A, the average tensile strength value is lower at 938.89 MPa.
