Abstract

The increasing number of vehicles leads an increase in fuel needs. The percentage of fuel production and consumption in Indonesia is inversely proportional, this can lead fuel scarcity, so alternative energy needs to overcome this. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal weight of adsorbent (clinoptylotite zeolite), bioethanol characteristics, and economic value. This research is an experimental research. Weight variation 6, 7, 8 grams with zeolite heating temperature of 120°C. Raw material for bioethanol is plantain tuber, with saccharification process at 100°C, fermentation 4 days, yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae 7 gram, 1000 ml water, 500 gram plantain tuber and stratified distillation 5 times at 78°C with adsorbent zeolite. Bioethanol characteristic testing refers to the test standards that have been determined by the Director General of EBTKE Number 722K/10DJE/2013 with testing sites at the Fuel and Lubricant Laboratory of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Surabaya State University and at the Surabaya Industrial Research and Consulting Center. The results of the study received an optimal adsorbent weight of 7 grams and bioethanol characteristics of 99.66% bioethanol levels, 0.01% methanol, 0.02% water, 0 mg /l copper, 0.01 mg/l acetic acid, colorless clear view, 0.0 mg/l chloride ion, 0.01 mg/l sulfur, 0 mg/100 ml gum content, calorific value 7280.50 kcal/kg, viscosity 1.14 CP according to standards determined,  There are four characteristics, namely 0.02% benzoate denaturan, flash point 10.90°C, pour point -10.85°C, and density 0.828 does not meet the standard. The economic value is Rp. 69,982. Yield percentage is 89.02%.
