Abstract

Energy is a vital need in all life activities in this world. The increasing growth of the world's population can accelerate the depletion of the world's fossil energy reserves. Micro-hydro Power Plant (PLTMH) is a small-scale power plant, which utilizes the power (flow) of water as a source of energy production. The crossflow turbine is one example (PLTMH). However, the power produced by the crossflow turbine tends to be low, so it is necessary to develop a crossflow turbine. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in the angle of the triangular cross-sectional blade on the power and efficiency of a horizontal axis crossflow turbine. This study used an experimental method by varying the truncated v blade with 4 mm, 8 mm, 12 mm cuts, compared to the uncut, flat plate v blade on a horizontal axis crossflow turbine. The number of blades used is 6 which will be tested with variations in water capacity of 9,572 L/s, 11,024 L/s, 14,322 L/s, 16,152 L/s, and 18,113 L/s with variations in loading on power and efficiency. The results of the study showed that the maximum power was obtained at the 8 mm truncated v blade at a capacity of 18,113 L/s with a loading of 8000 grams of 4,204 Watt. Optimal efficiency was obtained at 8 mm truncated v blade at a capacity of 11,024 L/s with a loading of 5000 grams of 85.77%. This is because the 8 mm truncated blade is able to utilize the flow properly so as to produce high RPM and greater torque even though it is given a greater load.
