Abstract

Baffle is a insulator in the shell and tube that serves to expand fluid contact so that heat transfer in both fluids increases. From previous studies that have not obtained an terbaik baffle cut against heat transfer, more research is needed on the effect of baffle cut variation of 20%,30%, and 40% Triple-Segmental Baffle. The goal of the study was to determine the effect of variation in baffle cut type double-segmental baffle orientation on effectiveness on shell and tube heat exchangers. The objects of the study are shell and tube heat exchanger and Triple-Segmental Baffle with variations of baffle cut 20%,30%, and 40%. This data capture uses flowmeter, pressure gauge, and thermocontrol tools. Data Research results are analyzed descriptively and calculated theoretically included in tables and graphs. The results showed the effectiveness value of the variation in baffle cuts 20% reached 44%, when the baffle cut 30% got an effectiveness value of 32%, and when the baffle cut 40% effectiveness value to 18%. Due to the increase in friction between the fluid and the baffle surface that occurs because the fluid flows longer and absorbs a lot of heat on the tube, so the most terbaik effectiveness value is in the baffle cut variation of 20% with a heat transfer effectiveness value of 44%..
