Abstract

In this era the use of motorcycles has increased rapidly causing the need for fuel oil which if used continuously will also increase. Bioethanol as an environmentally friendly renewable fuel is needed to solve this problem. The purpose of this riset to determine the performance of the 2008 Honda Supra 125 motorcycle engine with a mixture of premium fuel and bioethanol from canna tubers. This riset uses an experimental method, in which the 2008 Honda Supra 125 motorcycle was tested for performance (torque, effective power, specific fuel consumption, thermal efficiency, and CO and HC emissions) using premium mixed bioethanol (E0, E10, E15, and E20). For testing torque, effective power, specific fuel consumption, and thermal efficiency with an engine speed of 3000 to 9000 rpm with a range of 500 rpm based on the SAE J1349 standard while testing CO and HC emissions at idle. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the use of a mixture of premium and bioethanol from canna tubers on a Honda Supra 125 motorcycle in 2008 has better performance than only using premium. This can be seen from the results of research which always increases its performance and decreases its CO and HC emission levels. The best mixture of premium and bioethanol was obtained by E15 except for the best HC emission content, the mixture of E20 with an effective power yield of 7.57 PS at 6500 rpm. Torque increases to 7.28 at 5000 rpm. Specific fuel consumption is better with a yield of 0.076 kg/PS.hr at 4000 rpm. Thermal efficiency also increases to 86.505% at 4000 rpm. For CO exhaust emissions decreased to 0.53 % vol and HC exhaust emissions also decreased to 462 ppm with E20 fuel mixture.
