Abstract

Welding of the refinery pipe network is an important process because from its function to distribute gas and
oil, it must have good durability. The quality of the welding results is influenced by several factors, for
example, quenching. This study aims to determine the effect of PWHT and quenching variations in SMAW
welding dromus oil levels on the bending strength and hardness of the ASTM 106 grade B refinery pipe
welded joints. The research applied is an experimental type of research with quantitative techniques. The
test material was cut into several specimens and then carried out the PWHT process at a temperature of
620°C with a holding time of 20 minutes. and quenching using a variation of the dromus oil emulsion mixture,
then the hardness test process was carried out with the Hardness Rockwell HRC scale and bending testing
with the three point bending method. The data from the experimental results were analyzed using the one
way ANOVA technique and the independent sample T-test. The results of this study are that there is a
significant effect on the SMAW welding results on the ASTM 106 Grade B refinery pipe on the bending
strength with the highest strength value of 8177.06 MPa and the lowest strength value of 7287.74 MPa, and
there is a significant effect on the SMAW welding results on the refinery pipe. ASTM 106 Grade B for
hardness value with the highest value of 63.55 HRC and the lowest value of 62.95 HRC.
