Abstract

Plastic is a material that is difficult to separate from human life because of its advantages and functions. Methods for the breakdown of existing polymer chains, namely pyrolysis, gasification, thermal degradation and catalysis are currently available. Many studies have been carried out for the conversion of plastic waste into quality liquid products and show prospective results to be developed. This research was conducted to utilize mineral bottle waste which will be used as an alternative fuel through the pyrolysis process and will then be tested in the laboratory. This study uses an experimental method to determine the cause and effect between several factors that influence each other. Data collection was carried out to determine the feasibility and characteristics of the fuel with predetermined variables. The data taken from the experiment are the results of pyrolysis oil, variations in mineral bottles, temperature, time, the results of the calorific value test, ash content, viscosity, flash point, flame duration. From the results of the research conducted, pyrolysis oil has been produced from Aqua and Ades bottles. The results of the oil products produced are not much different in terms of yield and fuel characteristics. For the results at a temperature of 4000C the best results in terms of testing the calorific value, flash point, viscosity, ash content, and flame duration. The oil produced is still below the standard fuel characteristics so the results are not suitable for use. However, on the other hand, the use of mineral bottles can reduce the waste problem in Indonesia which is increasing every year
