Abstract

A The accumulation of plastic waste is a big problem because the nature of the plastic itself is difficult to decompose. Pyrolysis is a plastic waste processing method that convertĀ  plastic waste to become fuel oil. A common problem of the widespread pyrolysis method is the loss of heat in the reactor. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using glasswool heat insulators on the pyrolysis process of plastic waste. This research uses experimental research method by looking for causal between the effects of using glasswool heat insulators on the heat distribution of the pyrolysis reactor, the quantity of pyrolysis products, and the performance of the pyrolysis reactor. This research was conducted on conditions and equipment that has been adjusted. The use of glasswool heat insulators affects the heat distribution in the pyrolysis reactor where in the reactor without insulators the reactor reaches melting point temperatures at T1 and T2 respectively at 15 and 80 minutes. Reactor with 5 cm insulators reaches melting point temperatures atĀ  T1, T2, and T3 at 10, 80 and 140 minutes, respectively. In the reactor with 7.5 cm insulator the reactor reached the melting point temperature at points T1, T2, T3 and T4 at 5, 60, 110 and 160 minutes respectively. The reactor with 10 cm insulator reached melting point temperatures at points T1, T2, T3, and T4 at 5, 70, 105, and 140 minutes respectively. The use of glasswool heat insulator in the pyrolysis reactor affects the liquid condensate or oil produced in the pyrolysis process. Where the reactor without glasswool heat insulator produced condensate of 97 g, while the reactor equipped with glasswool heat insulator with a thickness of 5 cm, 7.5 cm, and 10 cm respectively produced 113 g, 121 g, and 130 g condensate. The use of glasswool heat insulators affects the performance of reactor the more thick use of glasswool heat insulator increase distilation efficiency and also technical efficiency..
