Abstract

The high consumption of plastic bottles, which is not accompanied by the ability to recycling, results in a large amount of plastic waste on earth. Plastic has properties that are difficult to decompose. One method that is widely used to process plastic waste is pyrolysis which is an environmentally friendly process because there is no waste during the process. The results obtained during the pyrolysis process are char (residue), oil and gas. This study aims to analyze the results of Polyethylene Terephthalate plastic pyrolysis oil with the effect of reactor temperature on the characteristics of pyrolysis oil, which include; density, viscosity, heating value, flash point, GC (gas chromatography) and cetane number. This study used an experimental method with descriptive qualitative data analysis by varying the furnace temperature at 250°C, 300°C, and 350°C. To determine the value and characteristics of pyrolysis oil products, namely: density, viscosity, calorific value, flash point, cetane number, and GC (gas chromatography). The characteristics of the highest pyrolysis oil yields are found in; density, viscosity, cetane number at a furnace temperature of 250°C, namely 0.7816 kg/L, 0.40 cP, 34.7 . The calorific value and flash point at a temperature of 350°C are 11965 kcal/kg and 42°C. GC-MS has a total percentage of hydrocarbon compounds with a total of 62.62%, 54.75%, 44.65%. From these results it can be concluded that the characteristics of PET (PolyethyleneTerephthalate) pyrolysis oil are similar to those of kerosene.
