Abstract

Continuous use of fuel oil (BBM) will result in energy reserves running low, resulting in energy scarcity. Therefore, alternative energy sources such as bioethanol are needed which are expected to be able to meet fuel needs. One of the materials that can be used as bioethanol is porang tubers. The aim of this research is to analyze the best bioethanol content from a yeast weight ratio of 2.6% by weight of material (13 grams), 2.8% by weight of material (14 grams), and 3% by weight of material (15 grams), testing the characteristics of bioethanol and the feasibility of bioethanol economically. This research is using experimental method. The fermentation time was 4 days and it was distilled 5 times at a temperature of 78°C, at level 3, level 4 and level 5 distillation using a zeolite adsorbent with mesh 70. Testing the carbohydrate content of porang tubers using the luff school method had a value of 41.99%. The results of the research showed that the optimal yeast weight was obtained when adding 15 grams of yeast, producing the highest yield and ethanol content, namely 13.2% and 31%.
