Abstract

The rapid development of technology and the increasing need for energy have caused the availability of fossil fuels to decrease, resulting in an energy crisis. One solution is the utilization of biofuels such as siwalan sap bioethanol. This study aims to analyze the flame characteristics of siwalan sap bioethanol fuel and pertalite (90), such as flame temperature, combustion time, flame area, flame color and flame trend with variations in biopertalite mixtures E0, E10, E20, E30, E40, E50, E60 and E100. This study was conducted by experimental method of diffusion combustion using tube-shaped media made of stainless steel with a thickness of 0.8 ml, a diameter of 10 ml and has a volume of 0.5 ml. Then burned with a lighter, which was tested 3 times. The results of flame characteristics produced from pertalite, biopertalite and bioethanol. The highest average flame temperature is produced by the E100 mixture 967.76 ° C, while in E0 the lowest average temperature is 766.43 ° C. Longer combustion time E60 250.11 second and the fastest combustion time E0 153.23 second. The average area of the largest flame E0 564.67 mm², and the lowest area in E60 132 mm². The highest red flame color E0 25,52%, the highest white flame E30 72,70, the highest yellow color 15,82% in E20, and the highest blue color E100 51.2%.  The best flame trends are E30, because they produce graphs tend to be more stable.
