Abstract

Alternative energy sources in Indonesia are very abundant, one of which is bioenergy. The use of bioenergy is still 5.1% of the total available potential. Bioenergy can be used as biofuel. Bioethanol is an energy that uses a fermentation process from organic materials to become ethanol. In the manufacture of bioethanol through 4 stages, including the first stage of raw material preparation, the second stage of maceration using 10% hydrochloric acid (HCl) and fermentation for 5 days, the third stage of separating bioethanol content by distillation, the fourth stage of testing characteristics in the form of density and viscosity of bioethanol results. The method applied in this study is an experimental method with a quantitative approach. The results obtained from this study include the distillation purity value using a distillator of 25%. Re-distilled with a rotary evaporator, the purity of bioethanol increased to 75%. The values ??of bioethanol characteristics in the form of bioethanol density obtained were 0.879 gr / cm3 and bioethanol viscosity obtained were 6.777 CP.
