Abstract

Adolescence is closely related to the search for identity or identity. A good level of self-esteem is an identity that teenagers need to have to help deal with difficult situations in their lives. Individuals will more easily develop their potential to the maximum if they have a good level of self-esteem. Self-esteem is partly formed based on the individual's feelings about his competence and abilities, as well as feedback obtained from others on the quality of his achievements and failures. So this study aims to examine the effect of emotional regulation (X1) and social interaction (X2) on students' self-esteem (Y). This study uses a quantitative approach with the formulation of an associative problem that has a causal relationship. Determination of the number of subjects using the Slovin formula and using a random sampling technique, the subjects in this study were 198 students of class XI SMA Negeri 1 Waru. Data collection techniques in this study were through the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ), Social Interaction Scale (SIS), and Coopersmith Self Esteem Inventory (CSEI) questionnaire which were adopted and adapted to the conditions of the school where the study was conducted. The data analysis technique in this study used the classical assumption test, multiple linear regression method, hypothesis testing (t test and f test), and the coefficient of determination test. The classical assumption test that has been carried out shows that the data is normally distributed, has a linear relationship, is not multicorrelational between independent variables, and has no symptoms of heteroscedasticity. The results of the analysis of the t-test data on emotion regulation on self-esteem with a t-value of 7.556 with a positive direction and a significance value of 0.000 which proves that there is a significant influence between emotional regulation on self-esteem. And the results of the t-test on social interaction on self-esteem resulted in a t-count value of 8.837 with a positive direction and a significant value of 0.000 which proved that there was a significant influence between social interaction on self-esteem. The results of the f test in this study obtained a calculated f value of 97, 629 and a significance value of 0.000 which proves that there is a significant simultaneous effect between emotional regulation and social interaction on students' self-esteem. The coefficient of determination obtained is 0.496 or 49.6%, while the other 50.4% is influenced by other variables not examined in this study.
