Abstract

ABSTRACT
Based on the observation in SD Negeri Percobaan Surabaya it indicated that the
children had difficulty in communication. So to enhance the communication ability
used visual strategy with the media of story picture in a series. One of the factors that
made the autism children difficult communicating was caused by the lateness of
language development, hard to talk, using unsuitable meaning words.
This research had purpose (1) to find the communication ability with visual
strategy in SD Negeri Percobaan Surabaya before giving intervention, (2) to find the
communication ability with visual strategy in SD Negeri Percobaan Surabaya after
giving intervention, (3) to find the influence of visual strategy toward communication
ability of autism children in SD Negeri Percobaan Surabaya. The design used in this
research was Single Subject Research (SSR). The subject was two autism children in SD
Negeri Percobaan Surabaya. The data collection techniques were observation and
documentation.
The research result indicated that to baseline phase, the frequency ability of autism
children to comprehend the instruction was still among 3-4 to the first subject while to
the second subject it was among 2-3 but after giving visual strategy by training the
subject’s comprehension toward instruction of mentioning and explaining got
enhancement i.e. 27-31 to the first subject and 23-30 to the second subject. From the
result of visual analysis among condition indicating the relation among condition it
could be concluded (1) giving visual strategy significantly influenced toward
communication ability of autism children, (2) before using visual strategy, the
frequency of communication ability of autism children in comprehending instruction
was among 3-4 to the first subject and 2-3 to the second subject, (3) after using visual
strategy the communication ability of autism children was among 27-31 to the first
subject and 23-30 to the second subject.
